History
Under the Ming Empire, the village of Panlongzhuang (盘龙 庄) existed in these places. In 1573, it was renamed Dahuaishuzhuang (大 槐树 庄, “Village of Large Sophor Trees ”). In 1771, the village was divided into three: Northern, Central and Southern villages of large Sophora trees.
In 1904, a commercial port was officially established, which, growing, gradually swallowed up these three villages, but their names were preserved in local toponymy: in 1947, three streets in these places were named after the villages that existed here. These places themselves fell into District 6.
In 1955, Jinan was divided into 5 large areas. Most of the former District No. 6 has become the Huaiyin District.
In 1966, Huaiyin District was renamed Dongfeng District (东风 区, “Wind from the East”), but in 1973 the district was returned to its former name.
Administrative Division
The district is divided into 16 street committees .
