According to the US Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 1,872.572 km 2 , of which 1,854,442 km 2 is land and 19,166 km 2 or 1,000% is water.

According to the 2000 census [1] , there are 6,525 residents living in the district, consisting of 2,481 households and 1,639 families . The population density is 4.00 people per km 2 . On the territory of the district there are 3,228 residential buildings, with a building density of about 2.00 buildings per km 2 . The racial composition of the population: whites - 93.67%, African Americans - 3.56%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.48%, Asians - 0.25%, Hawaiians - 0.02%, representatives of other races - 0.86 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.18%. Hispanic people accounted for 3.59% of the population regardless of race .
27.90% of the total number of households are children under the age of 18 years old, 57.20% of households are married couples living together, 6.20% of households are single women without a spouse, 33.90% of households households are not related to families , 31.40% of households consist of one person, 17.30% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.30 people, and the average family size is 2.88 people.
The age structure of the district: 21.40% younger than 18 years old, 7.30% from 18 to 24, 27.10% from 25 to 44, 23.80% from 45 to 64 and 23.80% from 65 and older. The average age of a resident of the district is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 111.90 males . For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 114.10 males .
