Biography
Born in Chisinau, one of eight children in the Hackel and Dvoira Gurfinkel family. At home they spoke only Yiddish and at school she studied in the same language. [4] Early left without a mother. In 1923 , together with her sisters Raizle and Sura, she left Romania , moved to the USA and settled in Brooklyn , where her uncle Max had already lived.
She lived in the same apartment in Bensonhurst for 72 years, worked as a seamstress. In 1932, she married her fellow countryman, jeweler Philip Steinberg (Steinberg, 1901-1967) [5] . They had two children - a son (1935) and a daughter (1942). [6] [7]
Goldie Steinberg led an independent lifestyle until she was 104 years old, then moved to the kosher- powered Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Long Beach , Long Island . [8] [9] [10] [11]
Since August 1, 2015, it has been the 45th of the oldest verified people ever living and the 6th oldest living verified woman.
