The Citadel, the old city and the fortifications of Derbent (English Citadel, Ancient City and Fortress Buildings of Derbent ) is the collective name under which UNESCO in 2003 entered the medieval architectural heritage of the city of Derbent in the list of World Heritage Sites .

Derbent, starting from the 1st millennium BC. e., was of strategic importance on the trade route from north to south and walking along the western coast of the Caspian Sea . Built in the 5th century AD e. Sassanids defensive works performed their functions for 15 centuries until the XIX century.
