According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 1 209.531 km 2 , of which 1 178.451 km 2 are land and 28.490 km 2 or 2.460% are water bodies.

There are 13,499 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 11.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 94.82%, African - Americans - 1.59%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 1.63%, Asians - 0.28%, Hawaiians - 0.01%, representatives of other races - 0.45 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.21%. Hispanic made up 1.25% of the population, regardless of race .
