The armed forces of Grenada previously included the People's Revolutionary Army of Grenada. Currently, of the militarized units in Grenada, there are only the Royal Grenada Police Force and Coast Guard units.
In the first years after independence, Grenada did not have its own armed forces, since Great Britain assumed responsibility for the defense of the island.
The armed forces of Grenada - the People's Revolutionary Army and the People's Revolutionary Police - were first created after the 1979 revolution, but after the US invasion of Grenada in 1983, the armed forces were disbanded.
In mid-April 1985, under the leadership of the United States, the preparation of the first police unit was completed for the Blaze government; the preparation of the remaining police units was to be completed by September 30, 1985. In 1985, Grenada participated in US military maneuvers in St. Lucia.
As of 2015, the militarized armed forces of the Government of Grenada consisted of a police force (900 people) [1] and a coast guard unit (60 people, 4 patrol boats).
