There is evidence that a church of the same consecration in the ancient Greek village of Karan existed in the first half of the 15th century [3] . The modern building was erected in 1775 (at the time of the annexation of Crimea to Russia on February 8, 1784, according to the Cameral Description of the Crimea ... 1784, there were 2 churches in the village [4] ). After the Greeks were evicted in September 1778 - according to the “Gazette on Christians withdrawn from Crimea in the Azov Sea” by A. V. Suvorov, 331 people left the village of Karan - 172 men and 159 women [5] - the churches were abandoned until 1841, when it was repaired and renewed [6] by the Greeks settled in Karani of the Balaklava battalion [7] .

The church was ravaged during the Crimean War of 1853-1856, immediately after its end, in 1856 it was corrected by parishioners and consecrated. The temple was closed in the 1920s and used as a cinema hall and club, renewed in the 1990s, assigned to the Balaklava St. George Monastery [3] .
