The son of a professor of philosophy in Clermont-Ferrand , who was also a prominent amateur musician in the city [1] . He graduated from the Paris Conservatory , a student of Jules Massenet and Cesar Franck . The author of a sonata for cello and piano (first performance - Frederick Schneklyud and Paul Bro, 1891) [2] , vocal compositions, including the words of his brother.
Lugue was one of the sources of information for Gustave Derep , author of one of the first biographies of his teacher Frank; Derepa dedicated his book to him ( César Franck: étude sur sa vie ; 1897).
