Biography
Francesco Bazili was born on January 31, 1767 in Loreto, in the Kingdom of Naples. He received his primary musical education from his father. He made his debut as a composer at the age of 7, having composed a mass. At the same age he gave his first concerts playing the organ. He continued his education with Giovanni Battista Borgi , and after the death of his father, he moved to Rome, where, completing his education with Giuseppe Giannacconi , on October 16, 1783 he became a member of the famous Music Academy of St. Cecilia .
From 1786 to 1789 he served as bandmaster in the chapel of the Cathedral of Foligno, then until 1803 in the chapel of the Cathedral in Macerata. In the same year he married Maria Filippucci. May 26, 1805 was taken to the position of bandmaster in the Cathedral of the Holy House in Loreto, where he served until October 31, 1828.
Along with the duties of bandmaster, he composed music for theaters. He made his debut as an opera composer in 1788 on the stage of the Vallée theater in Rome with the opera-buffa The Beautiful Stranger ( Italian: La bella incognita ). Following this, he wrote 12 operas, of which the public especially enjoyed the opera Illinesi ( Italian: Illinesi ) on the libretto by Francesco Romani , first staged at the La Scala theater in Milan on January 26, 1819.
In 1828, Francesco Bazili moved to Milan, abandoning the position of bandmaster of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome for the position of censor director of the Milan Conservatory . [3] Patronized the young musicians, but it was he who headed the commission, which refused to accept Giuseppe Verdi at the conservatory. [four]
Since February 1837, the composer was accepted to the position of bandmaster at the Julian Chapel at St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican , where he served until his death.
Francesco Bazili died in Rome on March 25, 1850.
Creative heritage
The composer's creative heritage includes 13 operas, numerous compositions of chamber and church music. In memory of the deceased teacher, he wrote "Requiem for Giuseppe Giannacconi," which was performed March 23, 1816 in the Cathedral of the Holy Apostles in Rome. [five]
