Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 1,693.862 km 2 , of which 1,623.932 km 2 are land and 69.930 km 2 or 4,200% are water bodies.
Population
According to the 2000 census [1] , the district has 8,865 residents comprising 3,489 households and 2,477 families . The population density is 5.00 people per km 2 . In the district there are 3,876 residential buildings, with a building density of about 2.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 96.95%, African Americans - 0.25%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.52%, Asians - 0.34%, Hawaiians - 0.01%, representatives of other races - 0.50 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.43%. Hispanics made up 1.55% of the population, regardless of race .
Of the total number of households , 33.20% are children under the age of 18 years, 60.70% of households are married couples living together, 6.90% of households are single women without a spouse, 29.00% of households households are not related to families , 26.00% of households consist of one person, 12.60% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.49 people and the average family size is 2.99 people.
The age structure of the district: 26.80% under the age of 18, 6.50% from 18 to 24, 26.40% from 25 to 44, 24.00% from 45 to 64 and 24.00% from 65 and older. The average age of a resident of the district is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 96.20 males . For every 100 women older than 18 years account for 92.50 males .
