The list of losses of the Mi-8 and its modifications (2011)

The list of lost Mi- 8s of all modifications (including Mi-9, -14 , -17, -18 , -19, -171 and -172) is compiled from data from open sources [1] sources and takes into account only accidents or external forces that led to the loss of the helicopter or its cancellation due to damage.

The list is not complete and not final.

  24 km north of Krasnoyarsk0/3During a training flight with an imitation of the failure of one of the engines (at an unacceptable height in violation of the RLE ), a helicopter crashed, followed by destruction and fire. Crew members were not injured [2] .

  Irkutsk region , Katanga district , 190 km north of Kirensk2/12When the passengers disembarked in hovering mode (landing was excluded due to the low density of the soil), a left roll appeared at the helicopter. PIC tried to level the helicopter, as a result of which there was a roll already on the right side. At this moment, the right landing gear fell into the ground, the car tilted harder, hit the rotor blades on the ground and the helicopter capsized. Three passengers engaged in unloading, were injured by the blades, two of them died [3] .

  Komi Republic , 180 km north of Syktyvkar0/9When approaching for the landing of firefighters, in the process of hovering at an altitude of about 20 m, spontaneous rotation of the helicopter to the left began. When parrying the rotation, the crew did not control the height, as a result of which the helicopter roughly landed, capsized on the starboard side and received significant damage. Crew members and 3 passengers received injuries of varying severity [4] .

  Chukotka Autonomous Okrug , 90 km southwest of Keperveem0/14Immediately after, during the control hover, a fire occurred in the cargo compartment, which turned into a fire, which almost destroyed the helicopter. The probable reason is the kerosene heater not turned off and the presence of flammable cargo in the baggage of passengers [5] .

  Sverdlovsk region , Nizhneserginsky district , near the village of Klenovsky1/4The helicopter crashed during a gas pipeline overflow due to falling into adverse weather conditions ( thunderstorm ). The FAC did not make a timely decision to return to the departure airport, continuing the flight at an altitude lower than safe. The car touched the tops of the trees on the top of the hill, the crew went to an emergency landing . During the landing, the car hit the ground with the tail rotor, capsized on the port side and collapsed. KBC died [6] .

  Chukotka Autonomous Okrug , Iultinsky District , near the village of Billings3/5When approaching in conditions of limited visibility (fog), the crew lost control of the spatial position of the helicopter. The car collided with the ground, collapsed and partially burned down. The crash mechanic and two passengers died in the crash [7] .

  Karachay-Cherkessia , near the village of Arkhyz0/13When approaching due to a manufacturing defect in the engine control unit, the power of the right engine fell. As a result of a rough landing, the helicopter collapsed, two crew members and three passengers received injuries of varying severity [8] .
