The list of lost Mi- 8s of all modifications (including Mi-9, -14 , -17, -18 , -19, -171 and -172) is compiled from open sources and takes into account only aviation accidents or external forces that led to the loss helicopter or its cancellation due to damage.

The list is not complete and not final.

As a result of the crash in the host’s helicopter, commander Major O. Kharchevnikov, the flight engineer of Art. Lieutenant V. Shevchenko and 11 paratroopers, navigator pilot S. Nikolaenko survived. The commander of Art. Lieutenant V. Zakharov, flight engineer Lieutenant A. Nevmyvak and 5 paratroopers, escaped the pilot-navigator V. Kokhnovich and three paratroopers [1] .

During take-off from one of the sites, an alarm was triggered warning of a gear failure. The crew ignored the signal (previously there were cases of false positives) and continued to take off. At the 20th minute of the flight, the drive gear of the gearbox was destroyed, strong shaking began and the car began to decline sharply. The crew made an emergency landing, when touching the ground the helicopter caught on the crest of the dune , made several revolutions in a horizontal plane around its axis and collapsed. At the same time, the flight technician, Lieutenant Colonel V. Kireev, deputy regiment commander for engineering and aviation services, who died from hospital wounds in a hospital [5], received a fatal head injury.
