Biography

Born on April 13, 1938 in the ulus of Khargan of the Selenginsky aimak of the Buryat-Mongol Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic . He began to write poetry in his school years, in the mid-1950s. After completing his studies at a seven-year school in his native village, then he graduated with a silver medal from Republican secondary school No. 18 of the city of Ulan-Ude (now the Republican Buryat boarding school No. 1). He entered the geological faculty of Moscow State University . But after the first year he left the university, realizing that geology was not his vocation, and went to Kazakhstan for the virgin lands , where he worked on the construction of the railway. Returning to Buryatia, he worked as a mechanic at the Ulan-Ude distillery , then as a journalist in the regional and republican newspapers, he enrolled in absentia at the Gorky Literary Institute . He died at the age of 37.

The first poetry collection of the poet “Shanghai deerem naran” (“The sun above us”) was published in the Buryat language in 1962. Then his books in Buryat were published - “Sengir hγleg” (“Blue Huleg”) (1964), “Hγbshergei” (“Struna”) (1967). In 1968, in Moscow , in the publishing house "Soviet Russia", his book was published in Russian - "Bowstring" . Already posthumously, collections of poems “Azhabaydalay duun” (“Songs of Life”, in the Buryat language) (1977), “Living, be happy!” (In Russian) (1977), “Altan Zula” (“Golden icon lamp ”) and the collection of songs “ Selenga ” (1998). In 2006-2008, supplemented editions of the collections of “Selenga” and “Golden Lampada” were published .

Dasha Dambaev is the author of verses for more than 50 songs that have become truly popular - “Selenga”, “Turuushin duran”, “Zamayu duun” and many others. The musical and poetic work “Ulan-Ude” (1966), created by the poet together with the composer Chingis Pavlov , is the official anthem of the capital of Buryatia .

Memory

Since 1988, in the house of the poet in the house where he was born and raised, there is the Literary Museum of Dasha Dambaev , created on the initiative of the poet’s sister Khanda Tsyretarovna, a teacher of the Buryat language and literature. Poetic Dambaev readings are held here annually. One of the streets of the village of Khargan is named after Dambaev. In 2013, a monument to the poet was installed in the village.
