According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 966.900 km 2 , of which 964.957 km 2 are land and 0.760 km 2 or 0.200% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , 24,555 residents of 9,389 households and 6,882 families live in the okrug. The population density is 25.00 people per km 2 . There are 9,992 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 10.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 98.50%, African - Americans - 0.05%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.11%, Asians - 0.72%, Hawaiians - 0.01%, representatives of other races - 0.10 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.52%. Hispanics accounted for 0.54% of the population, regardless of race .
Of the total number of households , 34.10% are children under the age of 18 years, 60.10% of households are married couples living together, 9.20% of households are single women without a spouse, 26.70% of households households are not related to families , 22.80% of households consist of one person, 9.60% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older), living alone.
