From 1859 he studied architecture at the Paris School of Fine Arts . Apprentice to Charles Auguste Ketel .

He worked as an architect for the company that built the Suez Canal . Author of several hotels in the canal construction zone (1864–1867).

He participated in the organization of the World Exhibition in Paris in 1867. He was responsible for the creation of pavilions of expositions of Siam and South America , as well as a special exhibition of the Suez Canal.

According to his designs, several buildings were built, combining architectural elements of eclecticism and unique patterns of bright and exotic styling in a non-Mauritanian spirit.

A. Chapon, in the opinion of experts, created a masterpiece - a large pavilion in Neo - Mauritanian style, the Palace of Bardot (re-erected in Paris park Montsouris in 1869 and destroyed in a fire in 1991). This work, which he represented in the Salon of 1868, caused admiration, praise in the press and a number of awards from the government of France and foreign countries.

In addition, the architect owns a number of projects for the Suez Canal company, several other special buildings and structures, including the construction and restoration of castles in the Seine and Oise , Haute-Vienne , and also abroad in Spain and Japan.

Suddenly died on April 24, 1893 at his home in Paris. He was buried in the Pere Lachaise cemetery .
