Louise was born on May 17, 1824 in Ludwigslust . The girl had an older brother, Friedrich Franz , three years later, the youngest appeared - Wilhelm . There was a family in Ludwigslust, the then capital of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. My father was a military man and spent most of his time at maneuvers. Mother cared about raising children, trying to educate them with cultured, educated people.

The ruler of the country at that time was Louise's great-grandfather, Friedrich Franz I. In 1837, he died, and Paul Friedrich inherited the throne. The family moved to Schwerin, which restored the status of the main city, and settled in the Old Castle. Five years later, his father died after catching a cold during a fire, and Louise’s elder brother, Friedrich Franz , became the Grand Duke.

At the age of 25, the princess married the 26-year-old Prince Hugh zu Windisch-Gretz . The wedding took place on October 20, 1849 in Ludwigslust. Two weeks later, Friedrich Franz joined his fate with Augustus Reiss-Kestritskaya .
