According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 1,147.371 km 2 , of which 1,124.061 km 2 are land and 9,000 km 2 or 1.970% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , the district is home to 33,565 residents of 13,762 households and 9,715 families . The population density is 30.00 people per km 2 . On the territory of the district there are 15 844 residential buildings, with a building density of about 14.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 96.16%, African Americans - 1.99%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.40%, Asians - 0.15%, Hawaiians - 0.01%, representatives of other races - 0.32 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.96%. Hispanics accounted for 1.05% of the population, regardless of race .
Out of the total number of households , 29.50% are children under the age of 18, 53.10% of households are couples living together, 13.00% of households are single women without a spouse, 29.40% of households households are not related to families , 25.70% of households consist of one person, 10.10% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.41 people and the average family size is 2.87 people.
