A participant in the battle on the Volga, an experienced officer, he made a bold and deeply thought-out decision. The regiment approached Munich along the road going from the Oder. Here the enemy built many defensive structures. Leaving only one company in this section, Sukhorukov defiantly, in front of enemy observers, took the main forces of the regiment back, then burst into the forest to the north of Munich, and from there rushed into the city with a friendly attack from the flank and from the rear. The infantry acted in small groups with tanks and self-propelled guns. Sukhorukov himself came with a rifle unit in the center of the regiment. Street fighting lasted several hours. Carrying out the plan of the commander, the soldiers tried to cut off the escape route to the enemy. They made their way to the intersections of streets and opened sudden fire, thereby creating the appearance of an environment. Hitlerites rushed about in search of a way out. This was what Sukhorukov sought. With a friendly attack of the main forces of the regiment, he completed the rout of the enemy. The city was taken without great losses on our part.
