Biography
Born November 18, 1888 in Helsingfors, in the Grand Duchy of Finland, where his father Harald Moulander performed in the Swedish Theater.
From 1907 to 1909 he attended school at the Royal Dramatic Theater in Stockholm . As an actor he performed until 1913 at the Swedish Helsingfors Theater, and later finally moved to Stockholm.
In the cinema begins as a screenwriter in 1916. Writes scripts for Victor Schöstrem and Moritz Stiller . As a director makes his debut in 1920 (“ King of the Pawns ”), but success came to him only in 1931 - after the release of the movie “ One Night ”. Filmed melodramas, which the critic called sentimental. Appealed to the anti-war and anti-fascist themes. Filmed works of Scandinavian classical literature. He took off several paintings from Ingmar Bergman ’s scenarios. Constantly collaborated with the cameraman Oke Dalqvist .
A participant in the programs of the 2nd (1934, “ Little Flirt ”), the 6th (1938, “ Woman 's Face ”) and the 10th (1949, “ Eva ”) of the International Venice Film Festivals.
He was married to actress Karin Mulander . Their sons Harald Mulander (1909–1994) and Jan Mulander (1920–2009) linked their lives with cinema.
