According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 2,937,063 km 2 , of which 2,931.883 km 2 are land and 1,600 km 2 or 0.130% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , 2,715 residents of the 1,152 households and 778 families live in the okrug. The population density is 0.90 people per km 2 . There are 1,419 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 0.50 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 98.93%, African - Americans - 0.15%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.37%, Asians - 0.07%, Hawaiians - 0.07%, representatives of other races - 0.04 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.37%. Hispanics accounted for 0.22% of the population, regardless of race .
Of the total number of households , 26.40% are children under the age of 18, 61.20% of households are married couples living together, 3.80% of households are single women without a spouse, 32.40% of households households are not related to families , 31.20% of households consist of one person, 18.20% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone.
