According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 655,115 km 2 , of which 633,100 km 2 are land and 8,490 km 2, or 3.360%, are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , 5,262 residents of the 2,188 households and 1,542 families live in the okrug. The population density is 8.50 people per km 2 . On the territory of the okrug, there are 2,436 residential buildings, with a building density of about 3.90 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 88.35%, African Americans - 9.90%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.29%, Asians - 0.06%, Hawaiians - 0.00%, representatives of other races - 0.17 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.24%. Hispanic accounted for 1.03% of the population, regardless of race .
Out of the total number of households , 28.20% are children under the age of 18, 56.50% of households are married couples living together, 10.80% of households are single women without a spouse, and 29.50% of households households are not related to families , 27.60% of households consist of one person, 13.00% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older), living alone.
