Biography
Alexey Suslov was born on March 18, 1913 in the village of Andreevo-Zorino (now - Berezansky district, Nikolaev region of Ukraine ). After completing ten classes of school, he studied at the Nikolaev Pedagogical Institute, graduated from two of his courses. In 1930, Suslov was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1933 he graduated from the Odessa artillery school. He participated in the Polish campaign and the Soviet-Finnish war . Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts [1] [2] .
By April 1945, Colonel Aleksei Suslov , the Guard, commanded the 60th Guards Artillery Corps of the 9th Guards Rifle Corps of the 61st Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . Distinguished during the Berlin operation . On April 17 - 19, 1945, the regiment of Suslov successfully crossed the Oder near the town of Tsedyn and captured a bridgehead on its western bank, after which it held it until the main forces crossed. In those battles, he repelled 17 enemy counterattacks, destroying 18 machine guns, 2 artillery and 3 mortar batteries, 45 fortified buildings and around the battalion of enemy soldiers and officers [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 31, 1945, for the “displayed personal courage, heroism and organization of the regiment crossing across the Oder River” by Colonel Alexei Suslov, the guard was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 6475 [ 1] .
After the end of the war, Suslov continued his service in the Soviet Army. In 1950 he graduated from the Higher Officers Artillery School. In 1961, Suslov was transferred to the reserve. Lived and worked in Volgograd . He died on November 4, 1984, and was buried in the Central Cemetery of Volgograd [1] .
He was awarded two orders of Lenin, two orders of the Red Banner , orders of Kutuzov 3rd degree, Alexander Nevsky , World War 1th degree, a number of medals [1] .
