According to the US Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 1,067.470 km 2 , of which 1,063.455 km 2 is land and 1,550 km 2 or 0.380% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , 26,889 inhabitants live in the district, consisting of 10,342 households and 7,746 families . The population density is 25.00 people per km 2 . On the territory of the district there are 11,534 residential buildings, with a building density of about 11.00 buildings per km 2 . The racial composition of the population: whites - 99.02%, African Americans - 0.13%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.25%, Asians - 0.11%, Hawaiians - 0.00%, representatives of other races - 0.08 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.41%. Hispanic made up 0.59% of the population regardless of race .
33.50% of the total number of households are children under the age of 18, 60.50% of households are married couples living together, 10.70% of households are single women without a spouse, 25.10% of households households are not related to families , 22.30% of households consist of one person, 9.80% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.54 people and the average family size is 2.95 people.
