Biography
Pyotr Surovtsev was born on June 27, 1921 in the village of Nizhnyaya Palomitsa (now the Oparinsky district of the Kirov region ). After finishing seven classes of school and agricultural technical school he worked as a land surveyor. In January 1942, Surovtsev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . He graduated from the Borisov Military Engineering School. Since February 1943 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He was wounded twice in battles [1] .
By November 1943, Lieutenant Pyotr Surovtsev commanded a platoon of the 181st separate motorized battalion of the 6th Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On the night of November 25–26, 1943, a Surovtsev’s platoon transported Soviet units across the Dnieper in the area of the village of Kanevskoye, Zaporizhzhya district, Zaporizhzhya region of the Ukrainian SSR , facilitating their capture of a bridgehead on the western bank of the river. Over the next day, he transported another 300 fighters and commanders [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 22, 1944, for “exemplary performance of command missions on the front of the battle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism”, Lieutenant Pyotr Surovtsev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal " Under the number 2267 [1] .
After the war, Surovtsev continued his service in the Soviet Army. In 1957 he graduated from the Military Engineering Academy . In 1976, with the rank of Colonel Surovtsev, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Moscow . He died on March 16, 1979, was buried at the Volkovsky cemetery in the city of Mytishchi, Moscow Region [1] .
