History
The history of the creation of the Muravyov Park began in the early 1980s, when Sergei Smirensky, a researcher at Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov, the idea came 65 km from the city of Blagoveshchensk , the center of the Amur Region, where vast flood meadows are located in the floodplain of the Amur River, to create a private crane park.
In 1994, 5192 hectares of various agricultural land (pastures, hayfields, farmland) were leased for 49 years with the help of the International Crane Protection Fund (USA), the Japan Wild Bird Society and the Pop Group Corporation industrial company (Japan) in the Tambov district of the Amur Region ) of which 60 hectares of arable land.
In 1996, Muravyovsky Park was established by the International Socio-Ecological Union (Moscow).
To create a new protected area here (a specially protected natural area - limits its economic use) meant depriving the local population of their jobs. The goal of S. Smirensky was to create a territory where both people and animals could coexist without violating each other's interests, thus the park became the first non-state territory for sustainable nature management.
The park and surrounding areas are included in the List of Wetlands of International Importance.
