Biography
Born in Galati in a Jewish family from Chisinau ; father (Ikhil Shekhtman) - owner of a customs brokerage office, mother (Rivka Rabinovich) - a housewife [1] . He studied at the Jewish gymnasium in Galati, in 1934 the family moved to Bucharest , where he continued his studies at the Romanian gymnasium. After Bessarabia joined the USSR, the family returned to Chisinau, where he entered the preparatory department of the musicology department of the Chisinau Conservatory. During the war years - in evacuation in Ferghana . In 1944-1945 he studied at the Moscow Regional Music College [2] .
In 1947 he returned to Chisinau and recovered in the second year of the Chisinau Conservatory, studied in the class of oboe player Mikhail Veniaminovich Furman (1893-1969) [3] . He graduated from the conservatory in the class of theory and history of music in 1952 [4] .
Since 1949, for 30 years, he taught at the Chisinau School of Music named after Stefan Nyagi, conducted music programs on Moldavian radio and television in Russian and Moldavian languages, delivered critical articles in the national press (under the pseudonym Nisan Ilie) and as a lecturer [5] [ 5] [ 6] .
Member of the Union of Composers of the USSR, in 1966-1977 - member of the Board of the Union of Composers of Moldova, chairman of the section of musical criticism. In May 1977 he moved to Israel ( Be'er Sheva ), taught at a music school, teacher's seminar, Ben-Gurion University .
Author of several monographs on the work of composer Stefan Nyagi (1949, 1959, 1966), the textbook Western Music Literature (1968).
