It was opened on October 1, 1970 , during the celebration of the 21st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China [3] [10] .
Architecture
The statue of Mao Zedong is 9.1 m high and the pedestal is 9.1 m. The inscription “Long live the victory of Mao Zedong” is placed on the front part [3] .
Composition
The pedestal is surrounded by statues of 58 heroes-workers, peasants and soldiers. They are divided into eight groups representing various stages of the struggle of the Chinese people under the leadership of Chairman Mao [3] . Most of them were in the hands of quotes Mao , later removed from the composition [1] . The first group represents soldiers and civilians calling for the 9th CCP Congress with the slogan “Unite to achieve even greater victories.” The group on the back of the pedestal, called "Building the Party," displays the early phase of the history of the Chinese Communist Party . The three groups on the left, with the slogans “From the spark of flames,” “Long live the people's war” and “Bring the revolution to the end,” illustrate the struggle during the Chinese civil war . The remaining three groups on the right side of the pedestal - “Socialism is good”, “Long live the three red banners” and Continue the great proletarian cultural revolution to the end ”- depict the stage of the socialist revolution [3] .
