Botanical Description

A perennial herbaceous plant 80-120 cm high. Lying stems , numerous, with burning hairs .

The leaves are opposite, whole, oblong-ovate, with sparse burning hairs. Stipules broadly triangular, up to 0.8 cm wide [3] [4] .

Inflorescence is a panicle ; the lower part of the inflorescence carries only male flowers , and the upper - only female flowers . It blooms in June - July, and bears fruit in August - September.

Anemophil . The fruit is an elongated ovoid nut . Reproduction is mainly vegetative [3] [4] .

Ecology and distribution

It lives in moist swampy ash and alder forests, along the shores of lakes [3] .

It is found in Russia in the Voronezh , Lipetsk and Belgorod regions . Outside Russia, lives in Western and Eastern Europe ; isolated populations are in Palestine [4]

Guard Status

It is listed in the Red Books of the Voronezh and Lipetsk regions [5] . Protected abroad in Belarus , Hungary and the Czech Republic [6] .
