History

The Boston diocese was established in 1922 as part of the Greek archdiocese of North and South America , but in 1930, due to the reorganization of the Greek archdiocese in America, all dioceses included in it were abolished.

On May 31, 1938, the Boston Vicariate was established, which in 1950 was transformed into the Third Archbishopric District, headed by vicar bishops.

On March 15, 1979, the Third Archbishopric District was transformed into an independent diocese.

On December 20, 2002, during structural transformations, all the dioceses of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in the United States received the status of Metropolitanate , and their ruling bishops received local titles in connection with which Metropolitan Aneysky Methodius (Turnas) received the title of Metropolitan of Boston.
