Biography
Heinrich Mayr was born on October 29, 1856 in Landsberg am Lech in the family of the royal arborist Clemens Mayr. He studied at the Ludwigs Gymnasium in Munich, then - at Aschaffenburg and the University of Munich . In 1884, under the guidance of Professor Robert Hartig, he defended a dissertation at the University of Munich for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. It was dedicated to the defeat of birch by the parasites Piptoporus betulinus and Phellinus laevigatus .
Mayr received a grant to travel to Japan and North America to study the prospects for introducing economically important woody plants into Germany. From 1887 to 1891 he was a professor at Tokyo University . Upon his return to Germany, he was appointed Forestry Assistant in Wunzidel .
Subsequently, Mayr published several books in which he described the species composition of the forests of Asia and North America. In 1903, Mayr, together with Crown Prince Ruprecht of Bavaria, again traveled the world.
From 1893, Mayr worked as a professor of forestry at the University of Munich. Not only German foresters, but also foreigners studied at the world-famous professor, in particular, A.K. Kayander and V. Shedelin .
On May 19, 1911, Myra suffered a stroke during a lecture. January 24, he died.
