AIS Arena

AIS Arena ( Eng. AIS Arena ) - sports and entertainment complex in Canberra , Australia . The arena was built in 1980, and its capacity is 5200 people. The opening ceremony was held on January 26, 1981, attended by Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser . Initially, the arena was called the National Indoor Sports Center and was the home site of the Australian Sports Institute . At present, Canberra Capitals and the Australian Institute of Sports, playing in the Women's National Basketball League , play home games there. As the capital’s main sports venue, the home arenas for Australia ’s male and female national teams as well as Australia’s netball team .

The arena was also the home venue for the Canberra Cannons Club, which played in the Australasia Basketball Championship . The Cannes won the championship three times in 1983, 1984 and 1988, but the club won all three times in the Grand Final in Melbourne . At a time when the Cannes performed at the AIS Arena, it was called the Palace ( The Palace, Palace ).

The construction project was developed by Philip Cox & Partners . In order to reduce the size of the arena and fit it into the panorama of the city, part of the building is below ground level.

The arena hosts not only sporting events, but also other events, such as trade shows, exhibitions, parties. The construction is the main indoor venue of the capital for concerts. Musicians such as Pink [2] , Alice Cooper and Kelly Clarkson have performed here.
