Biography

Educated at the Hamburg Technical School. In 1913 he joined the ranks of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).

As part of the dragoon regiment participated in the First World War. He was captured by Russian. He supported the ideas of the Bolshevik revolution. Member of the Civil War in Russia , since 1918 he commanded a cavalry detachment in the 1st Budenny Horse Army .

In 1919 he returned to his homeland and in March 1920 was among the leaders of the workers of the Rosleben district who rebelled against the Kappovsky putsch .

In 1920, he left the left wing of the SPD and joined the Communist Party of Germany (KKE), in which he became one of the organizers of the proletarian youth movement. In March 1921, he actively participated in the armed actions of the Communists in Central Germany, created hundreds of workers .

In 1924 he was among the organizers of the Union of Red Front-line Soldiers in Germany.

He headed the party organization of the Querfurt - Zangerhausen - Mansfeld district , in which radical miners predominated.

In 1924 he was sentenced to a year in prison for participating in the preparation of a communist uprising, but was released after he was elected to the Reichstag.

From 1924 to 1933 - deputy of the Prussian Landtag from the KKE.

In 1928, he supported the pro-Moscow line of the party leadership of the German Communist Party, headed by Ernst Thalmann .

He took an active part in the trade union movement. He was among the leaders of the German Metalworkers Federation.

After the establishment of the dictatorship of the National Socialists in Germany, he was arrested in April 1933 and sentenced to three years in prison in December 1934. Contained in various prisons.

The last place of detention is the Sachsenhausen concentration camp . Here he was part of an underground communist organization. He died in a concentration camp while disassembling unexploded bombs.
