Vladimir Leonidovich Sukhodrovsky ( March 31, 1924 , the village of Zhuino [1] , Kaluga province - January 14, 2014 , Moscow ) is a Russian physical geographer , geomorphologist . Doctor of Geographical Sciences (1981). Specialist in the field of cryogenic (permafrost) relief formation.

Biography
Parents worked as teachers in the city of Sukhinichi . Father tragically died in 1926 while saving his drowning students. Mother and son lived until 1938 in the city of Sukhinichi, then moved to relatives in Detchino .
After school, Vladimir Sukhodrovsky studied at the Voronezh Railway College and the Chkalovsky Anti-aircraft Artillery School. He participated in the Great Patriotic War from December 1942. Private, sergeant, lieutenant, anti-aircraft platoon commander, fought on the North-West, 1st and 2nd Ukrainian fronts. He was awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree and the Red Star, medals "For the victory over Germany", "For the liberation of Prague." He served in the army until 1949.
In 1954 he graduated from Moscow State University . In 1957-1958 he led an expedition to Franz Josef Land (the study of ice and permafrost). In 1966-1971 deputy director for scientific work of the Institute of permafrost them. P.I. Melnikova ( Yakutsk ).
