According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 1,269.101 km², of which 1,258.741 km² is land and 4,000 km² or 0.870% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , the district has 64,151 residents comprising 24,915 households and 16,568 families . The population density is 51.00 people per km 2 . There are 27,733 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 22.00 x buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 97.59%, African - Americans - 0.80%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.15%, Asians - 0.52%, Hawaiians - 0.03%, representatives of other races - 0.33 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.58%. Hispanics made up 0.95% of the population, regardless of race .
In the composition of 27.70% of the total number of households , children under the age of 18 live, 53.80% of households are couples living together, 8.70% of households are single women without a spouse, 33.50% of households households are not related to families , 26.60% of households consist of one person, 11.80% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.42 people and the average family size is 2.90 people.
The age structure of the district: 20.80% under the age of 18, 14.30% from 18 to 24, 25.90% from 25 to 44, 23.10% from 45 to 64, and 23.10% from 65 and older.
