The station was built in the XIX century in the Russian Empire, Tsaritsyn province. In the middle of the XIX century, the Donetsk coal basin was developed. This was the reason for the construction of the Volga-Don railway . The construction of the line gave a powerful impetus to the development of Tsaritsyn. The opening of the line took place on May 5, 1862. In 1869 , Alexander III, along with his wife, took a special train along the line. The station became a hub after the construction of the line to Razgulyaevka in 1878. During World War II, the station was almost destroyed. Restored in 1947. In 1949, the question arose about the construction of a train depot at the station. In early 1952, the depot began to function. In the early 2000s it was electrified.
Famous People
At the station, the famous Russian writer, prose writer, playwright Maxim Gorky worked as a weightmaker. In honor of him, Voroponovo station was renamed.
