Biography
Mikhail Styazhkin was born on November 12, 1920 in the village of Ulalushka (now the Maiminsky district of the Altai Republic ). He graduated from five classes of the school. Prior to being drafted into the army, he lived and worked in Birobidzhan . In 1940 Styazhkin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since March 1942 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By June 1944, Sergeant Mikhail Styazhkin commanded an instrument of the 57th artillery regiment of the 95th Rifle Division of the 49th Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Mogilev region of the Byelorussian SSR . On June 28, 1944, Styazhkin’s calculation in the battle for the village of Knyazhitsy of the Mogilev region destroyed 5 artillery pieces, more than 10 vehicles and about half an enemy infantry [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 22, 1944, Sergeant Mikhail Styazhkin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
In subsequent battles Styazhkin was injured, from whom he died on December 24, 1944. He was buried in a mass grave in Brest [1] .
He was also awarded a medal [1] .
Memory
Streets in Gorno-Altaisk and Birobidzhan are named after Styazhkin [1] . In 2015, his name was immortalized on a separate granite pylon of the Alley of Heroes in Victory Square in Birobidzhan [2] .
