Napoleon Linden ( him. Napoleonslinde ) - the legendary double-barreled linden, planted in Tilzit (now Sovetsk ) on Drangovskih heights by French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte . Monument of nature, one of the attractions of the city. It is the starting point of the tourist route "From the Treaty of Tilzit in 1807 to the Taurage Convention of 1812".
History
In Tilsit in 1807 Tilsit peace was concluded between Russia, Prussia and France. According to legend, in honor of the signing of the peace treaty, Napoleon Bonaparte planted a linden tree with two trunks in Tilsit. This tree was supposed to symbolize the friendship of Russia and France.
The place was chosen on one of the most elevated points of the city - Drangovskiy heights ( German Drangowskiberg ) - 42 m above sea level, since the Catholic monastery was located in this area and French military units were located during peace negotiations.
Until 1945, linden was highly esteemed by German history buffs, the Drangowski restaurant was located next to a tree; in Soviet times, linden was also protected, it was considered a unique and very important natural object for the city (along with Friedrich-Ludwig Jan oak and Colonial oak in Jacobsruhe Park).
The old linden died during a hurricane in 2010, but in 2013 there was a tree transplant at a historic site. Near lime there was installed a stone with a memorial plaque.
