Biography

He was born on December 5 ( December 17 according to a new style) in 1864 in the city of Gadyach, Poltava province, in a family of petty bourgeois.

In childhood, he showed a penchant for drawing. In 1878, together with S. Korovin, S. Svetoslavsky, S. Miloradovich, he worked in the workshop of A.K. Savrasov at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (see the memoirs of S. D. Miloradovich about Levitan). In 1883 he entered as a volunteer, and since 1885 he became a student of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture , where he studied painting with V. E. Makovsky , V. D. Polenov , E. S. Sorokin .

In the fall of 1886, Zaretsky became one of the founders of an informal association of Moscow artists, adherents of the realistic direction of painting - "Wednesday." Its members were I. Levitan, K. Korovin, A. Efimov, S. Ivanov, K. Petrov-Vodkin, S. Yaguzhinsky, Vasnetsov brothers. [one]

Zaretsky traveled a lot, spent his summer holidays in his native Poltava , Tauride and Tula provinces.

In 1889 and 1890, Andrei Zaretsky was awarded medals, and in 1893, along with a large silver medal for the painting β€œMarina,” received the title of class artist.

He participated in exhibitions at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, the Moscow Society of Art Lovers (1890-1908), the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions (1890-1893, 1897, 1899-1901), the first exhibition of studies, drawings, and sketches of the TPHV in St. Petersburg ( 1903), the 3rd exhibition of paintings of the β€œMoscow Association of Artists” (1895), the exhibitions of the Association of South Russian Artists (1899-1901), the exhibition of Moscow amateur collectors in St. Petersburg (1910), the exhibition of paintings β€œArtists for Comrade Warriors” in Moscow (1914). In 1895, as part of the preparation of the 16th All-Russian Art and Industrial Exhibition of 1896 in Nizhny Novgorod , A. Zaretsky participated in the Caspian expedition, painted views of the cities of the Caspian coast and the Central Asian rivers Amu Darya and Syr Darya .

The October Revolution found A. A. Zaretsky in Lebedyansky Uyezd. In 1917, when the estates began to be subjected to mass pogroms, Zaretsky, together with other county landowners who were trying to protect private property, established the Lebedyan Union of Landowners.

In 1919, the artist fell ill and died. Buried in with. Shovskoye Lebedyansky area .

Family

In 1891, Andrei Zaretsky married Lebedyan noblewoman Serafima Nikolaevna Bobrova and settled on the Beaver's estate in the village of Shovskoye in Lebedyansky district .

Here, sons Vladimir (06/20/1891), Sergei (10/12/1894), Boris (7/09/1896) and George (12/30/1892), daughter of Varvara (6/05/1898) were born to the hereditary honorary citizen Andrei Antonovich Zaretsky and his wife, noblewoman Serafima Nikolaevna ), Zoya (02.15.1901) and Anna (03.03.1907). [one]

Currently, the paintings of A. A. Zaretsky are exhibited in the Yaroslavl Art Museum, the museum-estate of V. D. Polenov in the Tula Region, are kept in the funds of the State Tretyakov Gallery , the Yaroslavl Historical-Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve and private collections.
