History

Under the Empire of Song in 993, the Dingqiang Military District was established (定 羌 军). In 1005, it was renamed the Baode Military District (保 德军).

When the Jin Empire in 1171, the Baode County was created. In 1182, the Baode military district was transformed into the Baode region (保). Under the rule of the Mongols, the county was disbanded in 1257, and the territory was under the direct control of the regional authorities. Under the Ming Empire in 1374, the area was reduced to the rank of the county, but in 1376 the county was again raised to the status of the area.

After the Xinhai Revolution in China, the administrative division structure was reformed, during which the regions were abolished, and the Baode region was transformed into the Baode county.

In 1949, the Xingxian Special District (区 区 区区) was formed, and the county became part of it. In 1952, the Xingxian Special District was disbanded, and the county became part of the Xinxiang Special District (区 区 专区). In 1958, the Xinxing Special District and the Yabei Special District (区 专 区) were merged into the Jinbei Special District (区 专 区); at the same time, Baode County was disbanded, and its territory was divided between Xingxian and Hetsyu Counties . In 1961, the Special Jinbei District was again divided into the Special District of Yabey and the Special District of Xinxan, and the county of Baode re-established within the previous borders was again part of the Special District of Xinxian.

In 1967, the Xinxiang Special District was renamed Xinxiang District (忻 县 地区). In 1983, Xinxiang District was renamed to Xinzhou District (忻州 地区).

In 2000, by a resolution of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, the Xinzhou District and Xinzhou City County were disbanded, and the Xinzhou City District was created.
