Calan

Kelan ( Chinese р 岚 п , pinyin : Kělán ) is a county in Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province ( PRC ). The county is named after Mount Kalanshan located on its territory.

History

Under the Tang Empire, in 703, Langu County (岚 谷 县) was created, in 706 it was disbanded, and in 724 it was re-created. Under the Song Empire, in 1070 the county was again disbanded, but in 1083 it was re-created. During the Mongol rule in 1221, the county was liquidated.

Under the Ming Empire, in 1374, the Kalan County was created, which the next year was elevated to the status of the Kalan region (岢岚 州). After the Xinhai Revolution , a reform of the administrative structure was carried out in China, during which the provinces were abolished and the Kaelan region was again transformed into a county.

In 1949, the Xingxiang Special District (兴县 专区) was formed, and the county became part of it. In 1952, the Xinxiang Special Region was disbanded, and the county became part of the Xinxian Special Region (忻 县 专区). In 1958, the Xinxian Special Region and Yabei Special Region (雁北 专区) were merged into the Jinbe Special Region (晋北 专区); at the same time, Shenchi and Kalan counties were annexed to Wujai County. In 1961, the Jinbe Special Region was again divided into the Yabei Special Region and the Xinxian Special Region, and the recreated county again became part of the Xinxian Special Region.

In 1967, the Xinxian Special District was renamed the Xinxian County (忻 县 地区). In 1983, Xinxiang County was renamed Xinzhou County (忻州 地区).

Since 1988, the Taiyuan Cosmodrome began to operate in the county.

In 2000, by decree of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Xinzhou County and Xinzhou City County were disbanded, and Xinzhou City District was created.
