Ophionyssus (lat.) Is a genus of ticks from the family Macronyssidae of the order Mesostigmata . Found in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. Ectoparasites of snakes harm in terrariums [1] [2] .

Content
Description
Small ticks, body length less than 1 mm. They have only two dorsal scutes in females (large cephalothoracic and rounded pygidial) and one in males. They parasitize on snakes , cause great harm in zoos, zoos, terrariums and laboratories around the world (sometimes found on lizards, can also attack birds, rodents and humans) [1] [3] .

About 15 species. In Australia, 2 species. For the fauna of the USSR, 2 species were indicated [1] [2] .
