The total length reaches 60–61 cm. The head is short, massive. The curvature of the tip of the muzzle up is strongly pronounced. Rostral scales at the tip of the muzzle with a fairly high keel. The main color is beige with dark brown spots along the back. The belly is gray.
He likes dry, open sandy areas, floodplains of rivers, fields, forests with sandy soil. Active during the day. It feeds on amphibians, in particular frogs and toads, as well as vegetables.
This is an egg laying snake. The female lays 8-10 eggs.
Inhabits the southeastern United States : Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina.
