Peerage of Great Britain ( English Peerage of Great Britain ) includes all currently existing peers created in the Kingdom of Great Britain after the Act of Union of 1707 , but before the Act of Union of 1800 . He replaced the peers of England and Scotland until it was replaced by his peers of the United Kingdom in 1801 .

Prior to the passage of the House of Lords Act of 1999, all British peers could sit in the House of Lords .

The ranks of British peerage, in descending order, are the Duke , Marquis , Earl , Viscount and Baron .
