According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 735.561 km 2 , of which 657.861 km 2 are land and 77.700 km 2 or 10.500% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , 5,084 residents of the 2,046 households and 1,438 families live in the okrug. The population density is 8.00 people per km 2 . There are 2 681 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 4.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 98.80%, African - Americans - 0.04%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.31%, Asians - 0.18%, Hawaiians - 0.00%, representatives of other races - 0.16 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.51%. Hispanics accounted for 0.63% of the population, regardless of race .
Out of the total number of households , 29.00% are children under the age of 18, 60.80% of households are married couples living together, 5.70% of households are single women without a spouse, 29.70% of households households are not related to families , 26.50% of households consist of one person, 14.40% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone.
