Description
The monastery was founded in the XIV [1] - XV century [2] .
In the 15th century, the monastery was the center of book writing, where the manuscripts Gabriel Urik and the calligrapher Theodore Marishescu and other famous masters were copied [3] .
At the end of the 18th century , the Monk Paisiy Velichkovsky worked in the monastery. Here he and his students translated the Greek Slavophilism and the works of other fathers of the Eastern Church into Church Slavonic.
Niemets Lavra was one of the largest medieval centers of Moldavian culture and education. The monks founded in Bessarabi the Kitskansky monastery , which is sometimes called the New Nyametsky Lavra (in this case, the Nyametsky Lavra is called the Old Nyametsky Lavra).
In 1934, the number of inhabitants of the Lavra, together with two monasteries, reached 800 people, and the Theological Seminary , a printing house of the Metropolitan of Moldova and a large library were also located in the Lavra. [2]
