Content
Club career
He began his professional career in 1976 at Bochum . In the summer of 1978, Herget moved to the club from the Second Bundesliga - the Rot-Weiss from Essen . In the last 3 seasons, he played the midfield position and scored 36 goals.
In the 1982/83 season, Matthias moved to another club from the Second Bundesliga - “ Uerdingen 05 ”. As part of the club, he was the undisputed leader. In the 1985/86 season, he helped the team take the bronze championship awards. He also played all 90 minutes in the victorious final match of the Cup of Germany 1984/85, in which Urdingen 05 defeated Bayern Munich with a score of 2-1.
In 1989, at the age of 33, Herget signed a contract for one season with Schalke 04 . In 1990, ended his playing career.
In the 1997/98 season he was the head coach of the Bocholt club.
Career for the national team
Debut for the national team of Germany took place on October 26, 1983 in the qualifying match for the European Championship 1984 against Turkey , replacing Hans-Peter Brigel . He was included in the national team for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico , where the FRG reached the final and lost to Argentina with a score of 2-3. But at that „world championship“ Mattias played only in the second match of the group stage against the national team of Denmark (0-2) [1] .
Nevertheless, the head coach of the German national team Franz Beckenbauer included in the national team for the home European Championship in 1988 .
