Biography
Arvi Huttunen was born on August 31, 1922 in the village of Huttusenmäki [1] (according to other sources by Huttusi [2] [3] ) of the Shlisselburg district of the Petrograd province of the RSFSR in a family of Finnish Ingermanlanders [4] [5] . Later, the family of the future artist moved to Karelia [6] . He graduated from a ten-year school in 1941 in Sortavala [3] , from where he was evacuated to Olonets with the outbreak of World War II [5] . In August 1941 he was drafted into the army [3] , was a clerk at the headquarters of the 2nd separate pontoon-bridge battalion of the Leningrad Front [3] [5] . In November 1941 he walked all the way of life [3] [7] , was wounded [6] . After the blockade, he was treated in a hospital in the village of Pasha [3] . In 1942-1946 he was repressed on a national basis [8] and exiled to the Chelyabinsk ITL , which was involved in the construction of the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant [3] [5] , and later to Koksokhim [5] . In the camp he began to draw pencil portraits [6] [9] [10] . After his release, he went to enter the Leningrad Academy of Arts [1] . Since 1946, a teacher of drawing and drawing at the Jung school of the Ministry of Fisheries of the Karelian-Finnish SSR [1] . He moved to Murmansk in 1947 [5] , where he also got a job as a drawing teacher [1] [3] . Since 1949, an artist of the district House of Officers of Sortavala [1] . From 1950 to 1952 he worked as an artist in a club [3] . In 1957 he entered in absentia [4] at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. I. E. Repin [11] . In 1963 he graduated with honors in the specialty "art critic" [1] [3] , thesis "Creativity of the Karelian artist S. Kh. Yuntunen " [11] . In 1950-1955 he was an artist of the Volunteer Fire Society, an advertising workshop of Murmantorg [1] . From 1956 to 1984 he was an artist at the art and production workshops of the Art Fund at the Murmansk Organization of the Union of Artists of the USSR [1] . Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR since 1973 [1] . The organizer and participant of the polar expeditions of artists of the creative group on the Northern Sea Route, passing from Murmansk to Vanino , in 1979-1986 [1] [8] [12] . Since 1991, an artist-consultant of the Murmansk Sociological Research Center "Reason" [1] .
In 2000, the artist was awarded the title of Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation [1] . November 17, 2007 for his services in the field of fine arts, the artist was awarded the honorary title Honored Artist of the Russian Federation [13] .
Creativity
The artist’s work is mainly devoted to northern nature [4] [6] [7] [9] [14] [15] . In addition to the themes of the north, there are works on Sami and Russian folklore, and political works [7] . Arvi Huttunen also completed reconstruction projects for the Club of Sailors and Interclub in Murmansk; he designed the Murmansk restaurant “Seafood” and the store “Polar Dawns”, the Kirov House of Technology and the Wedding Palace, the Lovozero cafe “Chum” and others. The works are stored in the collection of the Murmansk Regional Art Museum , the Murmansk Regional Museum of Local Lore , the Directorate of Exhibitions of the Union of Artists of the USSR, the Ministry of the Navy of the USSR, in institutions and organizations of Murmansk, Petrozavodsk, Moscow, in private collections in Russia and abroad [1] [16] .
