A perennial herb that forms dense turfs. Stems 25-50 cm tall.
The leaves are bristle, rough, with a diameter of 0.3—0.6 mm. Ligules with a diameter of 0.3 mm [3] [4] .
The inflorescence is a narrow, compressed whisk 10-20 cm long. Spikelets are single-flowered. Glumes narrowly lanceolate, awl-pointed, 12-16 mm long. Lemma 8–9 mm long, covered with hairs. Spine twice bent articulated, covered with short hairs 0.3-0.8 mm long. It flowers in June-July, bears fruits in July [4] [3] .

Occurs in stony and fescue-feather-grass steppes .
