According to the US Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 1,068,350 km 2 , of which 1,056.643 km 2 is land and 11.707 km 2 or 1,100% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , 34,078 inhabitants live in the district, consisting of 12,500 households and 9,350 families . The population density is 32.00 people per km 2 . On the territory of the district there are 13 655 residential buildings, with a building density of about 13 buildings per km 2 . The racial composition of the population: whites - 98.54%, African Americans - 0.22%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.28%, Asians - 0.10%, Hawaiians - 0.01%, representatives of other races - 0.09 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.76%. Hispanic was 0.45% of the population regardless of race .
In the composition of 36.70% of the total number of households live children under the age of 18 years, 60.10% of households are married couples living together, 9.80% of households are single women without a spouse, 25.20% of households households are not related to families , 21.40% of households consist of one person, 9.90% of households consist of elderly (65 years and older) living alone.
