According to the Netherlands Institute of Art History, Jan van der Brugge in 1679 was a member of the St. Luke's Guild in Antwerp , later moved to Paris , where he created a series of engravings. Some of them contained funny signatures in La Fontaine's poems and were very popular with the Parisians.
